Guangzhou's planned investment jumps 149 percent in first three quarters of 2026

Planned investment in Guangzhou totaled 349.3 billion yuan in the first three quarters of 2026, up 149 percent from a year earlier, officials announced at the 12th Guangzhou Annual Investment Conference on November 4.

Over the same period, the city attracted more than 2,200 newly registered projects, with investment activity picking up markedly in emerging sectors such as semiconductors and integrated circuits, intelligent equipment and robotics, biopharmaceuticals and health, artificial intelligence and new energy and energy storage. Fixed-asset investment grew 20.6 percent year on year.

The figures cap a strong run for the city, which has designated 2026 its "year of investment promotion."

Foreign companies are among those betting most heavily on the city. Singapore's Perennial Holdings said its 1,000-bed international hospital in Guangzhou's Baiyun District and a 1,600-bed international healthcare community in Huangpu District are on track to open by the end of 2026—a pace the company described as "China Speed" in foreign-funded construction.

Germany's TÜV SÜD is also expanding. Liz Fendt, who spoke for the company at the conference, said its international sci-tech innovation park will open in Guangzhou on November 20 and will be the largest and most technologically advanced facility of its kind in the company's global network.

About 1,000 global investors attended the conference, where executives of several multinationals voiced confidence in the city's business climate.

"European companies have always felt a great business atmosphere here in Guangzhou, and we have grown together with this city," said Jens Eskelund, president of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China.

"We believe there is still huge potential for cooperation between us, and we look forward to even deeper collaboration with Guangzhou and its many local partners."
