Officials of Shanwei city highlighted the city's economic and social development achievements during the "14th Five-Year Plan" at a press conference held on December 25 by the Information Office of Guangdong Province in Guangzhou, emphasizing its transformation into a strategic coastal hub connecting eastern and western Guangdong.

Located along the South China Sea, Shanwei boasts natural deep-water ports, rich marine resources, and convenient access to the province's industrial and consumer markets, supporting rapid economic growth, urban-rural renewal, and industrial upgrading.

Over the past five years, the city has seen its GDP exceed 150 billion yuan, with an annual growth rate of 5.8%, and public budget revenue rising by 12.7% per year. Key industries, including automotive, electronics, and colored gemstones, have expanded significantly, supported by the development of industrial parks and innovation platforms. Advanced manufacturing and high-tech sectors now account for an increasing share of the local economy, while research institutes and innovation centers have accelerated technology transfer and industry upgrades.

Urban and rural areas have undergone comprehensive transformation under initiatives such as the "Hundreds, Thousands, Tens of Thousands" project. Towns and villages have seen improvements in infrastructure, living environments, and agricultural branding. Over 500 villages have been upgraded into beautiful, livable communities, while county and town development has strengthened overall urban-rural integration.

The city has also prioritized environmental protection and sustainable development. Clean energy projects, including offshore wind farms and green power initiatives, have progressed, and coastal and marine areas have been restored and developed for ecological and economic purposes. Air and water quality rankings remain among the top in the province, reflecting successful ecological management.

Tourism and cultural sectors have flourished, with new recreational and sports events, high-end coastal resorts, and marine tourism projects attracting millions of visitors annually. The local jewelry and colored gemstone industries have also embraced digital and cross-border trade, reaching markets in over 180 countries.

Officials noted that residents' income has increased steadily, with urban and rural households benefiting from expanded employment opportunities, resource utilization, and reform-driven initiatives. Looking ahead, Shanwei aims to continue advancing industrial innovation, marine economic development, and urban-rural integration, positioning itself as a key hub in Guangdong's high-quality development.
