On November 1, Maoming hosted an international trade matching event for the tilapia industry at the 138th Canton Fair. Eighty international purchasers and industry representatives from countries including Russia, Colombia, Australia, Venezuela, and Peru held discussions with Maoming-based tilapia enterprises, reaching an intended transaction volume of nearly 10 million USD.

As China's largest tilapia production base, Maoming has developed a characteristic and advantageous industrial cluster valued at 10 billion yuan. Currently, Maoming's tilapia breeding area exceeds 42,831.5 acres, with an annual output of over 280,000 tons—accounting for one-seventh of the national total tilapia output.

Maoming's tilapia industry relies heavily on exports. Last year, its tilapia product exports reached 106,000 tons, with a total value of 2.44 billion yuan, accounting for one-quarter of the national export volume. The products are sold to more than 70 countries and regions, including the United States, Mexico, Europe, and Africa.
At the event, several Maoming tilapia enterprises conducted product roadshows and in-depth negotiations with foreign purchasers. Many international purchasers plan to conduct on-site inspections in Maoming, visiting breeding bases, processing factories, and logistics support systems. A representative of a Colombian purchaser stated, "Maoming's tilapia industry impresses with its advantages in scale, standardization, and the entire industrial chain, and we look forward to establishing long-term and stable supply chain cooperation."
