New shopping and food maps launched in Guangdong to enhance winter travel

On November 14, Guangdong launched a digital shopping map and food map to boost winter tourism and spending. The initiative aims to provide residents and international visitors with streamlined access to the province's retail and culinary highlights.

The Guangdong Shopping Map allows users to easily locate over 2,000 tax-refund shops, 53 major commercial districts, more than 60 flagship stores, and over 200 time-honored brands across 21 cities. Accessible via scanning a QR code, the map offers multi-language support and integrated navigation through Alipay. International tourists can use Alipay's international version for seamless discovery and payment.

Simultaneously, the Guangdong Food Map, available on Alipay and Meituan, features nearly 300 local specialties from Cantonese, Teochew, and Hakka cuisines. On Meituan, users can also claim a 52-yuan dining coupon package. From November 2024 to March 2025, multiple cities—including Guangzhou, Dongguan, and Foshan—will issue food vouchers via platforms like Douyin and Meituan, with some offering discounts as high as 400 yuan.

Officials say the maps are part of a provincial campaign aimed at improving the consumer experience and promoting local culture. Additional initiatives, including 30 recommended food streets and gourmet City Walk routes, will be rolled out in the coming months.
