GBA AI standardization working group launched to boost cross-border innovation

On September 8, a working group for the artificial intelligence (AI) standardization of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) was officially launched in Guangzhou.

The working group aims to drive deep integration of technological and industrial innovation across the GBA through standardization, fostering cross-border collaboration among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and international partners.

"Our goal is to fully leverage the GBA's industrial strengths, geographic location, and innovation," said Wu Haiyun, head of the working group. "By utilizing standardization tools, we will accelerate the empowerment of regional industries through AI technologies."

Wu outlined both short-term and medium-term objectives. "We will expedite the efficient translation of AI research outcomes into standardized frameworks and build an ecosystem for the application of AI standards in the GBA."

In terms of technological deployment, the working group will promote the large-scale commercialization of AI through standardization. It will organize collaborative efforts among industry, academia, research institutions, and end-users to develop validation standards for scenario-based applications.

Additionally, the group will establish an AI pilot-scale service platform in the GBA, offering end-to-end technical support for industrialization.

Wu also emphasized the initiative's focus on international cooperation. "We will select exemplary AI implementation scenarios with proven results to create representative cases. By collaborating with institutions in Hong Kong and Macao, we will facilitate the export of AI-driven solutions to countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative."
