The Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin has recently launched a new training program for international commercial mediators as part of efforts to strengthen its cross-border dispute resolution system and support regional business activity.
The 3-day course helped participants gain a comprehensive understanding of international commercial mediation practices, cross-border dispute resolution frameworks and relevant legal systems. Practical sessions included simulated mediation cases and advanced negotiation techniques designed for cross-jurisdictional disputes.
According to the organisers, the program reflects growing demand for legal professionals familiar with the Chinese mainland, Macao and international legal systems, as economic and commercial exchanges in Hengqin continue to increase. The initiative aims to strengthen Hengqin's role as a regional center for resolving international commercial disputes and to support the business environment across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The training program was jointly organised by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Mediation Center, Singapore's SAGE Mediation Institution and the Guangdong Office of the Macao Legal Exchange and Promotion Association.
Participants also visited the Service Center for Economy and Trade between China and Portuguese/Spanish-speaking Countries, the Hengqin International Commercial Mediation Center and other institutions to learn how cross-border legal services and dispute resolution operate in Hengqin.
Participants who successfully complete the program can receive a joint certificate from the organisers. Outstanding participants may be admitted to an official mediator roster after assessment, creating a pathway from training to professional practice.
