Ms. Wang, who lives in Hong Kong but has many relatives and friends in the mainland, often visits Huizhou. With the assistance of the staff at the Mong Kok Branch of the Bank of China (Hong Kong), she easily applied for and opened a bank account on the mainland. She stated that having a mainland bank account not only makes it much more convenient to transfer and remit money but also facilitates travel, property purchases, and retirement payments in the mainland.

According to relevant regulations, eligible Hong Kong and Macao residents can directly open Class II and Class III personal bank accounts in the mainland at designated bank branches in Hong Kong and Macao. After the account is successfully opened and the card is activated in Hong Kong or Macao, residents can link it to mobile payment tools in the mainland and enjoy the same payment convenience as mainland residents.

As early as 2019, the service was first launched in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Zhuhai. In July this year, the People's Bank of China Guangdong Branch organized eight participating banks to expand the agency witnessing account opening service branches to all cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and to increase the number of branches in Hong Kong and Macao.
