Maoming New City is accelerating construction recently. At the construction site of the China Unicom Maoming 5G Edge Computing Center (Phase I) project, engineering vehicles are moving in an orderly manner, large machinery is operating tirelessly, and construction workers are diligently advancing the project.
As a key digital infrastructure project in Maoming New City, the center will integrate cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence, and innovative 5G applications to become a regional hub for advanced intelligent computing. Upon completion, it is expected to serve as a vital engine driving the digital economy in western Guangdong, injecting strong new momentum into regional industrial upgrading and economic growth.

The project has a total planned construction area of approximately 18,000 square meters and will be implemented in two phases. The first phase, with an investment of about 150 million yuan, will involve the construction of a nearly 8,000-square-meter communication equipment building and the deployment of cutting-edge facilities such as AI computing clusters and edge cloud nodes. It aims to establish the largest, highest-standard, and most energy-efficient computing hub and smart city operational center in western Guangdong.

According to Project Manager Ruan, since its launch in mid-May, the project has efficiently completed 14 tasks, including site leveling, temporary water and electricity setup, construction design and review, test pile construction, test pile inspection, and engineering pile construction. Currently, the project has entered a rapid construction phase to ensure the goal of achieving the main structure's roof sealing by the end of this year.
"The intelligent computing center is the 'digital heart' of Maoming New City and will provide robust support for the construction of the smart city," said a representative from the Maoming New City Management Committee. Leveraging this project as a pivot, the new city is accelerating the establishment of a digital infrastructure system. This system will significantly enhance the intelligence level of urban governance, provide enterprises with higher-quality network services, support the launch of "one-stop" smart governance, and strengthen the digital foundation for industrial investment and development.
