Starting November 9, the cross-border ambulance transfer service between Guangzhou and Hong Kong has officially commenced. This "green channel for life" connecting Guangzhou's Nansha District and Hong Kong marks the entry of cross-boundary medical rescue cooperation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into a new stage. It provides comprehensive, efficient, professional, and safe medical support for patients in need of cross-border transfer.
Cross-border ambulance
On September 17 of this year, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, John Lee, stated that the governments of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao would work together to expand the arrangement for cross-boundary patient transfer by ambulance, including implementing two-way transfers and incorporating designated hospitals in Guangdong's Zhuhai City and Nansha District of Guangzhou. The Hong Kong Health Bureau subsequently announced relevant plans, confirming that the Nansha Branch of the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University would be included in the Greater Bay Area Cross-boundary Ambulance Pilot Scheme.
Health departments of Guangzhou and Hong Kong, together with Shenzhen Customs, immigration, and relevant departments of the Hong Kong SAR government, established standardized procedures, professional medical coordination, and streamlined clearance measures to ensure safe and efficient transfer operations.
Emergency Passage
"Previously, cross-border medical transfers were time-consuming and involved numerous steps. The formal launch of this cross-border transfer service enables a one-stop, 'point-to-point, bed-to-bed' transfer, significantly reducing patient transfer time," said an official of the Nansha District Health Bureau.
