Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center officially launches international eye care services

The Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-sen University officially launched its international eye care services on April 20, 2026, creating a premium, one-stop facility for expatriates living in China and patients from overseas.

The new facility occupies more than 4,000 square meters of purpose-built space. All inpatient rooms are designed as private suites, while diagnostic services are grouped together, allowing patients to complete comprehensive eye examination in a single visit.

The service draws on several platforms developed in-house, including the ChatZOC large language model for ophthalmology and AI-powered digital avatars that provide multilingual consultation and patient education, as well as 5G-enabled ophthalmic surgical robots for selected complex procedures.

Under Guangdong's "Hong Kong and Macao Medicine and Equipment Connect" policy, the center can provide patients with drugs and medical devices already in use in Hong Kong and Macao but not yet registered on the Chinese mainland, broadening their treatment options.

The center accepts major international credit cards, including Visa, and offers direct billing arrangements with more than 10 commercial insurers, among them Ping An, China Pacific Insurance (CPIC), and AIA.

With 14 clinical ophthalmology subspecialties and eight specialized diagnostic and treatment centers, the hospital covers a wide range of eye conditions, from cataracts and glaucoma to pediatric ophthalmology and genetic disorders.
