Hengqin organizes cross-border medical transfer drill with Macao

The Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin held a cross-border medical transfer drill on August 20 in collaboration with the Macao Special Administrative Region.

The transfer route ran from Hengqin Hospital of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University to Conde de São Januário Hospital in Macao. The simulated patient was a 60-year-old male who had sustained a right femoral neck fracture from a fall. He had a history of coronary artery disease and had recently developed chest pain and tightness, with an electrocardiogram indicating ischemic ST-segment changes. The scenario required a cross-border transfer to Macao for specialized treatment.

The drill also simulated various contingencies, including traffic congestion and sudden changes in the patient's condition. These scenarios tested multi-department coordination, en-route medical care and procedures for staged reinforcement and transfer.

The ambulance used a streamlined clearance procedure featuring pre-registration, rapid inspection and priority passage through emergency lanes. The entire transfer took approximately one hour.

By simulating the full transfer process and coordinating dispatch across multiple departments, the exercise further refined the point-to-point inter-hospital transfer mechanism between Hengqin and Macao, with the goal of improving transfer efficiency and emergency response capabilities.
