Health lecture and free clinic support foreign women in Guangzhou

On May 29, a health lecture and free clinic for foreign women were held at the Zhujiang New Town Clinic of Foresea Life Insurance Guangzhou General Hospital, offering medical services including traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) consultations and breast health screenings.

The event was organized by the Guangzhou International Cooperation Center (GICC), Liede International Neighborhood, and Canton Place International Community.

In 2025, Guangzhou welcomed more than 3.2 million inbound foreign visitors. The city is home to 7,582 medical and health institutions, 123,300 hospital beds, and 222,700 health professionals.

In April 2026, the Guangzhou International Medical Tourism Service Center was officially launched. Working with 17 pilot international medical service hospitals across the city, the center aims to build a one-stop platform integrating medical treatment, wellness services, and tourism and provide end-to-end services for overseas patients during their stay in Guangzhou.

As more foreign nationals choose to stay in Guangzhou for extended periods, demand for daily wellness, long-term healthcare, and medical services continues to grow. "The goal of this event is to bring quality health services to foreign communities in Guangzhou," said Mandy Guo, Director of the GICC.

Victoria, a Ukrainian resident who has lived in Guangzhou for more than 20 years, shared her thoughts. "Many foreigners live here but do not speak Chinese. It is crucial to have accessible international medical services to make life easier for expats, so they can fully understand their health conditions in detail. I think this is very important," she said.

She also expressed appreciation for traditional Chinese medicine. "The concept of wellness in TCM is very interesting. We can regulate our bodies through natural methods. We can adjust our lifestyle and medication routines. Sometimes this may be better for our health than taking Western medicine," she added.

Elizabeth Ann Jones, Head of the ISA Tianhe International School of Guangzhou, praised the city's medical environment. "I've been to the public hospitals here. They are incredibly efficient and organized. The doctor spoke fluent English and was very kind," she said.

Zhang Rong, Director of the Office of Party and Government Affairs of Liede Subdistrict, said the subdistrict is considering new measures to better meet the medical needs of foreign residents in the community. "We plan to arrange English and other foreign-language-speaking volunteers to accompany foreign residents during their medical visits," he said.

"We are also looking into installing more Chinese-English bilingual signs at medical institutions, community hospitals, and public hospitals in the next phase," he said.
