Since the beginning of 2025, Zhaoqing, Guangdong Province, has intensified efforts to advance its "Nanyue Housecraft (南粤家政)" elderly care pilot program by integrating advanced care concepts from Hong Kong and Macao with local service features, promoting higher-quality elderly care services across the city.
The Chunhui Youpin Elderly Care Center in Sihui has set up a "sensory touch wall" for seniors with cognitive impairment.
Local elderly care institutions have benchmarked themselves against advanced practices from Hong Kong and Macao by upgrading facilities, optimizing service procedures, and accelerating the development of smart elderly care systems. For example, the Guangning Nursing Home, operated by First Elderly Care, has established a nostalgia therapy area, featuring vintage items such as kettles and tape recorders, to help seniors carry out cognitive training activities.
Meanwhile, the Chunhui Youpin Elderly Care Center in Sihui has set up a "sensory touch wall". By touching different patterns and textures, seniors with cognitive impairment can regularly improve their recognition and memory skills.
Smart technology has also been widely incorporated into elderly care scenarios in Zhaoqing. Community-based institutions such as the Zhenhuiyuan Elderly Care Service Center provide seniors with wearable smart care devices and home-based age-friendly renovation services.
"Smart elderly care devices can monitor seniors' health data and movement trajectories in real time, ensuring timely rescue in emergencies," said Zhou, who is in charge of the center.
In recent years, nearly 2,000 elderly residents from Hong Kong and Macao have settled in Zhaoqing. With its excellent ecological environment, convenient location, and internationally-recognized care model, the city has gradually become a preferred choice for elderly people from Hong Kong and Macao seeking a comfortable retirement.
