Summer in Guangdong arrives with baskets of ripe fruit. Across the province, orchards are entering peak harvest season, inviting visitors to pick fresh fruit straight from the trees. From lychees and wampees to grapes and passion fruit, here are some fruit-picking experiences worth adding to your summer itinerary.
Lychee
No fruit captures a Guangdong summer quite like the lychee. Peel away its bright red shell, and you will find translucent white flesh bursting with sweet juice. Due to weather conditions earlier this year, the harvest period will be shorter than usual. As late-season varieties such as Xianjinfeng and Huaizhi come into season, now is one of the last chances to enjoy this iconic Lingnan fruit fresh from the tree.

Sanhua Plum
Sanhua Plums take their name from historic Sanhua Town, now part of Longxian Town in Shaoguan, where they were first widely cultivated. Known for their crisp texture, balanced sweet-and-sour flavor, and natural white bloom on the skin, Sanhua Plums ripen from mid-June to early July.

Grape
Summer is also grape season in Guangdong. Clusters of Kyoho Grapes, Shine Muscat Grapes, and other varieties hang beneath shaded trellises, creating picturesque picking experiences for families.
