Guangzhou imposes temporary traffic controls on selected roads this weekend

Large public events will take place at eight locations across Guangzhou from October 23 to October 25, including seven sports venues and the Xindanchong Water Area on Changzhou Island. In a notice issued on October 22, Guangzhou traffic police announced temporary road controls and parking arrangements.

Zhongshan Park Front Road (中山公园前路) is the only road on which vehicles unrelated to the event will be barred from entry. Roads around the venues listed below may be subject to temporary controls from the stated times until each event ends, depending on traffic conditions. Official shuttle buses are recommended for the Greater Bay Area Culture and Sports Center (大湾区文化体育中心), and metro or bus services for other venues.

October 24

From 3 pm, controls may affect roads around Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center Stadium (广州大学城体育中心体育场), including Inner Ring Road (between Xinghai East Road and Guangwai East Road), Zhongxin North Avenue, Jingning Street, Fengmao Street, Zhongda West Road, Qinglan Street, Zhongda East Second Road, Guangwai West Road and Huanhu Street. The stadium's car park will not be open to the public, and nearby parking is scarce. Higher Education Mega Center North Station, served by Metro Lines 4 and 12, is about a 700-metre walk away. Drivers may use the Central Lake or Guangdong Velodrome car parks.

From 5 pm, controls may affect Huixing Road, Xiangxue Third and Fourth Roads, Xiangxue Avenue, Kaichuang Avenue and Kaida Road around Baoneng Guangzhou International Sports and Performing Arts Center (宝能广州国际体育演艺中心). During arrival and departure periods, temporary pick-up and drop-off zones will operate on Kaichuang Avenue (between Xiangxue Third and Second Roads) in both directions, as well as on Xiangxue Third Road, Xiangxue Fourth Road and Xiangxue Avenue. Vehicles must stop only briefly to pick up or drop off passengers; waiting is prohibited.

Taxis, ride-hailing vehicles and other vehicles picking up or dropping off passengers may wait in a single line on the right side of Xiangxue Third Road (northbound from Xiangxue Avenue to Kaichuang Avenue), Kaida Road (both directions south of Kaida Yiheng Road), Xiangxue Avenue (the south side to the west of Xiangxue Third Road and north side between Xiangxue Fifth Road and Civic Square), and Huixing Road (north side between Xiangxue Sixth and Fourth Roads). Drivers must remain in their vehicles.

Stopping and passenger pick-up or drop-off are prohibited on Kaichuang Avenue between Xiangxue Third and Fourth Roads. The venue has about 800 parking spaces, but parking nearby is scarce. Drivers may use the car parks at Civic Square or Zhitai Plaza.

From 5 pm, controls may affect Xingya Avenue, Yayun South Road and Xingya Fifth Road near the Gymnastics Hall at Guangzhou Asian Games Town Gymnasium (广州亚运城综合馆体操馆). The venue has around 500 parking spaces, but parking nearby is limited. Taxis and ride-hailing vehicles are advised to use Yayun South Road or Xingling Road for pick-ups and drop-offs.

Also, from 5 pm, controls may affect Jinyuan Road, Yuncheng East Road, Yuncheng Central First Road and Qixin Road near Guangzhou Gymnasium (广州体育馆). The venue has about 600 parking spaces. Taxis, ride-hailing and other vehicles may pick up or drop off passengers on Yuncheng East Road and Qixin Road but must leave immediately; and waiting is prohibited.

October 25

From 7:30 am until the event ends, motor vehicles and non-motorised vehicles not associated with the event will be barred from Zhongshan Park Front Road on Changzhou Island (长洲岛). Vehicles must divert via Jinzhou Road. Depending on traffic conditions, Guandong Road and Guanxi Road may also be subject to temporary controls. No public parking areas will be available on nearby roads, and parking is limited in the surrounding area.

From 5:30 pm, controls may affect Yingyuan Road, Jixiang Road and Lianxin Road near Yuexiushan Stadium (越秀山体育场), and Jiaochang West Road and Jiaochang East Road near the People's Stadium of Guangdong Province (广东省人民体育场). Neither stadium's car park will be open to the public. Parking near Yuexiushan Stadium is limited, while spaces near the People's Stadium of Guangdong Province are scarce. Traffic police urge residents to plan their routes ahead, obey traffic laws and follow road signs and instructions from officers and on-site staff.
