As of August 31, the end of the summer travel season, China Railway (CR) Guangzhou Group transported a total of 126 million passengers over the 62-day period, an increase of 1.578 million or 1.3% year-on-year, marking the highest summer passenger volume in history.
As a transportation hub in Southern China, Guangzhou South Railway Station served 37.421 million passengers, including 19.026 million departures and 18.395 million arrivals. The busiest single day was August 9, with a record 711,000 passengers arriving and departing.
The Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Rail transported 6.068 million cross-border passengers, a year-on-year increase of 17.1%.
To meet the sustained surge in demand, Guangzhou Railway Group operated 190,000 trains during the season, an increase of 4.6% year-on-year, and added 5,877 temporary trains, mainly serving popular routes such as Changsha-Shenzhen, Shenzhen-Chaoshan, and Guangzhou-Zhanjiang.
With the opening of the Chongqing-Guizhou section of the Chongqing-Xiamen High-Speed Railway, Guangzhou Group launched overnight high-speed trains for the first time, connecting Shenzhen North and Guangzhou South with Chongqing East. This reduced travel time by 11 hours compared to conventional trains. During the summer season, the line carried a total of 1.425 million passengers bound for Chongqing.
In addition, Guangzhou Group introduced more than 50 special themed trains, including trains for seniors and reading-themed trains. These served popular destinations such as Urumqi, Beijing, and Zhangjiajie, with a total of 40,000 passengers enjoying the services.
