Guangzhou Metro extends services for New Year holiday

As the 2026 New Year holiday (January 1–3) approaches, Guangzhou Metro has announced extended operating hours and service adjustments to meet increased travel demand. With favorable weather and festive activities expected, daily passenger volume on December 31, 2025, and January 1, 2026, is forecast to exceed 10 million trips.

From December 31 to January 3, metro services across the city will be adjusted. On December 31, the entire metro network will extend operating hours by 1.5 hours, with Lines 1, 2, 3 (including the northern extension of Line 3), 5, 6, 7, 8, and Line 12 (both east and west sections) providing an additional 30 minutes of service.

On January 1 and January 3, services on Lines 1, 2, 3 (including the northern section of Line 3), 5, 7, Line 12 West Section (Xunfenggang–Guangzhou Gymnasium), and Line 22 will be extended by one hour.

To accommodate returning students on January 3, Lines 14 and 21 will operate with increased capacity, including additional short-turn services on Line 14 between Jiahewanggang and Taiping stations from 14:00 to 21:30.

Additionally, from 12:00 until the end of service on December 31, 2025, and from 13:20 until the end of service from January 1 to January 3, 2026, express services on Line 14 will operate as regular trains.
