Hengqin and Macao coordinate to tackle holiday travel surge at Hengqin Port

On February 11, relevant authorities of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, together with their Macao counterparts, convened a meeting on Spring Festival clearance arrangements at Hengqin Port for 2026.

As the only direct crossing between Hengqin and Macao, Hengqin Port serves not only as a vital channel but also as a key showcase of joint governance between the two sides. Data show that total inbound and outbound passenger trips exceeded 30 million in 2025. On New Year's Day 2026, single-day traffic reached 147,000 trips, up 84 percent year on year, both record highs. With the upcoming Spring Festival holiday approaching, another surge in passenger flows is expected.

Representatives from multiple departments on both sides discussed and deployed measures focusing on managing peak passenger flows during the holiday, improving services, and strengthening coordinated operations.

During holidays, the popularity of joint two-region trips continues to rise. Authorities stressed the need for joint action based on these features, including dynamic staffing arrangements, strengthened coordinated management of surrounding areas, and the refinement of multiple support measures. Following the meeting, relevant units conducted on-site inspections at Hengqin Port to ensure the implementation of the planned measures.
