Yunfu, Guangdong Province, has launched a trial on-demand bus service in Yuncheng District, allowing residents to book rides through the DiDi app or WeChat Mini Program for short trips at a flat fare of 3 yuan per ride.
Unlike conventional buses with fixed routes and schedules, the service operates within a designated area and adjusts routes based on passenger demand. A smart dispatch system clusters nearby bookings and sends vehicles where they are needed.
The service runs daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and uses smaller passenger vehicles that can navigate urban streets and side roads. It aims to extend public transport coverage to areas that conventional buses may not reach.
To book a ride, passengers can enter their pickup and destination points on DiDi, confirm both are within the trial area and pay online. The system then matches bookings and dispatches a vehicle, which passengers can track in real time.
