High-speed rail services between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong SAR have expanded significantly this year, with more Guangdong cities gaining direct links to Hong Kong and new services extending further into eastern and western regions.
As of September 28, 2026, high-speed rail services from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station directly serve 113 destinations on the Chinese mainland, following the addition of Guangzhou North, Yiwu and Fuqing West. The expansion came after 16 new direct destinations were added in January, bringing the total to 110 at the time.
The January expansion also increased services to several major destinations in southern China. Daily round-trip services between Hong Kong West Kowloon and Guangzhou South rose from 19 to 24 pairs. Services to the Chaoshan region, Xiamen and Fuzhou were also adjusted, with more stops added on some routes. One of the three daily round trips to Xiamen was extended to Fuzhou, while daily services to Shantou increased from four to five pairs.
The network is set to expand further into western Guangdong next month.
From October 11, the daily Hong Kong West Kowloon-Zhanjiang West services G6048 and G6046 will begin stopping at Taishan Station in Jiangmen, according to MTR Corporation Limited. The new arrangement will provide a direct rail connection between Taishan and Hong Kong without the need for passengers to change trains.
Under the new timetable, G6048 will leave Hong Kong West Kowloon at 10:18 am and arrive at Taishan at 12:28 pm, while G6046 will depart Taishan at 5:49 pm and reach Hong Kong at 7:59 pm.
The new Taishan stop will give residents of Taishan (Jiangmen) and Hong Kong a daily direct rail option, further strengthening transport links between the city and the wider Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
MTR has also added temporary trains around the upcoming National Day holiday, including additional services between Hong Kong and Futian, and between Shenzhen North and Beijing West to meet increased passenger demand.
