New Hong Kong Airport lounge opens in Zhongshan, cutting travel time to 2 hours

A new city check-in facility for Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) began operations in Zhongshan, Guangdong, on January 19, reducing the travel time between the city and the global aviation hub to approximately two hours.

Located at Shengjing Station in the Dongqu subdistrict, the lounge offers pre-flight services such as check-in counters and baggage drop-off. Passengers can complete these steps before boarding direct shuttles to HKIA's terminals.

The lounge is part of a network of seven stops across Zhongshan, covering key residential, commercial, and tourism zones such as Shaxi, Xiaolan, and Tanzhou. Daily shuttle services, including 23 trips from 7:00 to 19:00, connect passengers via the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link.

Residents like Mr. Tang, who purchased the first ticket on opening day, welcome the convenience. "It's now a comfortable, direct two-hour trip," he said. The service is designed to simplify travel for Zhongshan residents flying overseas, as well as for international visitors coming to the city for tourism or business.

HKIA connects to over 200 destinations worldwide. The new lounge expands the airport's reach further into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The recent opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link has already shortened travel between Hong Kong and Zhongshan to around one hour. This latest facility is expected to strengthen transport links and support closer tourism and cultural exchanges across the region.
