Jieyang Airport flight volume soars, ranking second nationwide

Jieyang Chaoshan International Airport, serving the tri-cities of Shantou, Chaozhou, and Jieyang, has announced a weekly schedule of 2,191 flights—an 18.4% year-on-year increase that places its growth rate second among all Chinese airports. The expansion signals rising demand in the eastern Pearl River Delta and reflects broader infrastructure upgrades linking the region to domestic and Southeast Asian markets.

The winter schedule, effective from October 26, introduces new domestic routes to destinations like Lhasa, Wuxi, and Yulin, while maintaining international services to Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Vientiane. Notably, the airport has designated two high-frequency routes—to Ningbo and Haikou—as “air shuttles,” prioritizing optimized timings and streamlined services for business and leisure travelers. With the airport's overnight aircraft capacity reaching 31, early morning and late evening flight options have increased, offering greater flexibility.

Situated within 20 kilometers of Shantou, Chaozhou, and Jieyang, the airport acts as a key node for the Chaoshan area, home to a large overseas Chinese diaspora. In 2024, the airport handled 8.67 million passengers, and the latest flight increases suggest further growth ahead.
