Passengers can now use either the Guangzhou Metro (广州地铁) app or the Dongguan Metro (东莞地铁) app to travel across both cities' metro systems, after the two systems linked their QR code services on September 22.
Passengers do not need to download another app when traveling between the two cities. Those using the Guangzhou Metro app in Dongguan, or the Dongguan Metro app in Guangzhou, simply need to update the app to its latest version and switch to the relevant city's metro page to activate the QR code function.
Guangzhou has already linked its metro QR code system with 11 other cities: Shanghai, Chongqing, Beijing, Tianjin, Shenzhen, Nanchang, Nanjing, Chengdu, Xi'an, Nanning and Zhengzhou. The Guangzhou Metro app can also be used for Foshan's metro system.
