The long-awaited second phase of Metro Line 13, which recently passed its acceptance inspection, will open at the end of this month.

This north‑south backbone line, extending approximately 41.69 kilometers, will link Nanshan, Bao'an, and Guangming districts. With interchanges to lines 1, 2, 5, 6, 9, and 11, it will make travel much easier for commuters in central and western Shenzhen.

Once open, the line will cut travel time from Guangming Science City to Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint to about 45 minutes.

The first phase of Line 13, which runs from Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint Station to Shangwu Station in Bao'an, began full operation on Dec. 28 last year. Phase II (North Extension) extends 19.25 kilometers northward from Shangwu to Lisonglang, adding 11 new stations.

Among these 11, seven adopt a standard design featuring vibrant orange as the primary color and perforated panels depicting Shenzhen's skyline. The remaining four feature distinctive motifs and offer unique visual experiences, making perfect backdrops for photos.

Inside the Hong'ao Park Station.

Hong'ao Park Station, adjacent to the Guangming Campus of Shenzhen Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, blends traditional Chinese style with modern design. With a wood‑tone palette, the station features hollow grilles and eave lines in the ceiling that echo traditional wooden craftsmanship, illuminated by simple LED lighting. Artistic representations of herbal plants adorn the walls, helping to promote Chinese medicine culture.

Fenghuang Town Station is themed on the auspicious phoenix, echoing its Chinese name. The orange perforated panels on both sides of the ceiling replicate the layered texture of phoenix feathers, with light shining through the perforations. Gradient curve patterns on the ceiling, reminiscent of phoenix tails, extend gracefully to the columns.

Guangmingcheng Station draws inspiration from the mountains, sea, and cityscapes of the Greater Bay Area.

Xinzhuang Station, easily recognizable, features a futuristic starry sky. Looking up at the center of the station, you will see a blue‑purple starry canopy complete with the Milky Way and twinkling stars. The exterior of the station's elevator is decorated with colorful floral patterns and sculptures of a boy and a girl gazing into the galaxy.

Above the Gongming Depot, the Guangming Fenghuang Culture and Sports Park is under construction. Covering some 365,900 square meters, the park will include cultural and sports venues as well as retail spaces. The depot itself, occupying approximately 360,000 square meters beneath the park, is the largest metro depot in Asia.
