A new service area opened on Monday on the Shantou-Meizhou Expressway, which runs through mountainous areas in eastern Guangdong province.
The Shuiche service area is located at the border of Shuiche and Meinan townships in Meizhou. The project is part of an initiative targeting high-quality rural development in 10,000 villages from 1,000 townships across 100 counties in Guangdong. Construction on the service area started in May last year.

Featuring sales of high-quality local products and authentic cuisine, the service area plans to integrate agriculture with cultural tourism resources in nearby villages.
Six more expressway service areas in Guangdong opened on Monday.
Daily traffic flow is expected to exceed 10 million vehicle trips across expressways in Guangdong during the peak times of the eight-day National Day holiday, which begins on Wednesday, according to local transportation authorities.
