Longmen County in Huizhou, one of Guangdong's main honey-producing areas, recorded an annual honey output of about 3,600 tons in 2024, according to official data. The industry is worth more than 300 million yuan and supports over 4,000 beekeeping households.

The county has 149,000 bee colonies, making up 12.4% of Guangdong's total. To further develop the sector, Longmen is promoting a model that links research institutes, leading enterprises, cooperatives, and beekeepers. It is also integrating agriculture with tourism to expand sales channels.
The Longmen Apiculture Research Institute has established a modern processing line capable of packaging three tons of bottled honey and one ton of bagged honey per day. The institute has also formed cooperatives, created a materials distribution system, and built specialized cold storage to enhance quality control from source to finished product.
Construction of the new honey industrial park began in 2024. Covering a planned area of 734 square kilometers with an investment of 15.12 million yuan, the project includes agricultural facilities, technological systems, and demonstration bases.
Local authorities also plan to collaborate with food companies in Hong Kong and Macao to develop honey-based products tailored to those markets.
