As autumn brings drier weather, a glass of refreshing lemon water or lemon tea offers a welcome burst of sweet-and-sour flavor. In Zhaoqing, Xiangshui lemons (Citrus × limon 'Rosso') grown in Gaoyao District and Guangning County are now in peak harvest season.

In Gaoyao District, favorable climate and soil conditions allow Xiangshui lemon trees to flower and bear fruit year-round. Compared with common lemons, the local variety is known for its plump fruit, rich aroma and mild bitterness. It has gained a strong foothold in the Pearl River Delta market and reached consumers nationwide through e-commerce. Gaoyao District now has more than 453 hectares of Xiangshui lemon orchards, producing over 9,700 metric tons annually.

In Guangning County, Shizui Town is a key production area for Xiangshui lemons. Thanks to its favorable natural environment, the lemons grown here are known for their thin, crisp rinds, tender pulp, distinctive aroma and refreshing sweet-and-sour flavor. Shizui Town now has around 80 hectares dedicated to Xiangshui lemon cultivation.

Guangning County is also extending the industry beyond fresh fruit, developing products such as candied lemons, lemon-flavored fish products and lemon white tea to diversify its offerings and increase added value.

Across Zhaoqing, the growing Xiangshui lemon industry is creating new opportunities for local farmers, boosting agricultural returns and supporting rural revitalization.
