Over 52,000 acres of juicy longan in season in Gaozhou, Maoming

As lychee season ends, longan takes its place.

In mid-to-late July, Gaozhou's 320,000 mu (52,800 acres) of longan began harvesting. The fruits are plump, golden, sweet, and juicy.

Maoming's Gaozhou has cultivated longan for over 2,200 years. It is the origin of the world-famous Chuliang longan variety and China's "Golden Longan Homeland."

With 320,000 mu of orchards and an annual production exceeding 180,000 metric tons, Gaozhou is the largest longan-producing county in Guangdong province and nationwide. It supplies 20% of Guangdong's and 10% of China's total longan output—meaning one in every ten longans consumed in China comes from Gaozhou.

Gaozhou longans are characterized by their large fruit size, thick pulp, thin skin, and crisp juiciness. When dried into "guiyuan" (longan pulp), they are valued as a medicinal and edible ingredient known as "Southern Ginseng."

This summer, visit Gaozhou to taste sweet longans and explore its beautiful countryside!
