Spring tea harvest underway in Yangjiang's Helang Town

As spring unfolds, tea picking is in full swing in Helang Town, a Yangchun County-level City, in Yangjiang City. Lush tea plantations carpet the hills, where farmers carrying bamboo baskets move through the fields, carefully plucking fresh buds.

Helang is a provincial-level tea production base and a key growing area in Yangjiang. The technique for producing its signature product, known as "Immortal Tea," has been designated as a municipal-level intangible cultural heritage item. The town has ten tea farms, producing about 604 tonnes of fresh leaves annually, with a total output value of around 40 million yuan. The industry has benefited 1,113 households and raised farmers' annual income by a total of 2.8 million yuan.

The tea's name is rooted in a local legend. According to folklore, six immortals once passed through Yangchun and scattered tea seeds across the hills, nurturing the lush tea gardens that flourish here today. The name reflects a simple wish that visitors who come to pick and taste the tea can enjoy a moment of springtime pleasure. During the harvest season, visitors can also experience tea picking firsthand while exploring the region's tea culture.
