Pomelos ripen across the hills of Meizhou, southern China's Guangdong Province, in September, as workers begin harvesting in the region's orchards.
In 2025, Meizhou had about 660,000 mu (44,000 hectares) of pomelo orchards, accounting for 90 percent of Guangdong's total and about one-fifth of the country's total planting area. The city produced 1.3 million metric tons of pomelos in the same year, with the industry's total output value reaching 8.945 billion yuan, making it China's second-largest pomelo-producing region.
