Maoming's first National GI Protection Zone approved for Huajuhong

The "Huajuhong National Geographical Indication (GI) Protection Demonstration Zone" has been officially approved by the China National Intellectual Property Administration, making it the first such zone established in Maoming, Guangdong Province.

Since its preparatory launch in 2021, the zone has driven significant growth in the Huajuhong industry. Currently, the Huazhou-based Huajuhong National Modern Agricultural Industrial Park supports over 132,000 mu (approximately 8,800 hectares) of cultivation, yielding 76,000 tons of fresh fruit and over 15,000 tons of dried products annually. The industry employs around 350,000 people, involves 1,500 business entities, and generates a total output value of 11.5 billion yuan across its supply chain.

Leveraging the concept of "medicinal and edible homology," the sector has expanded into health products and daily necessities, developing more than 200 derivative items—from traditional slices to food, beverages, and personal care products. In October, Huajuhong ranked among China's top 100 geographical indications by comprehensive value and placed third in Guangdong.

The establishment of the demonstration zone is expected to strengthen GI protection, enhance market competitiveness, and further boost regional economic development.
