Abiu fruit enters harvest season in Heshan, Jiangmen

Abiu, a fruit native to South America, has entered harvest season at Qiancai Ecological Orchard in Zhongsheng Village, Taoyuan Town, Heshan, Jiangmen, Guangdong. The golden fruits have been ripening on the trees since early August, drawing visitors to pick their own.

Abiu is rich in nutrients and has milky-white, translucent flesh with a smooth, jelly-like texture. Abiu trees can begin bearing fruit in the second year after planting and produce larger yields as they mature. With a harvest period of nearly two months, the crop gives families a wide window to visit and pick the fruit themselves.

The orchard has about 50 mu (3.3 hectares) of abiu trees this year, with an expected harvest of 3,000 to 3,500 kilograms. The picking season is expected to continue through the end of September.
