A swallow-themed cultural tourism and sports carnival was launched on July 30, at the Yanyan Scenic Area in Qiaotou Town, Huaiji County, Zhaoqing, Guangdong. Spanning over a month until late August, the event promises a unique blend of ecological wonders, intangible cultural heritage, and interactive experiences, inviting travelers to explore the natural and cultural treasures of southwest Guangdong.

At the heart of the carnival is the Yanyan Cave, a karst landscape renowned for its seasonal spectacle of thousands of golden swallows nesting on the cliffs. Visitors will witness the awe-inspiring sight of swallows swarming out of their caves at dawn and returning at dusk, a natural phenomenon accompanied by conservation stories shared through live-streamed tours.
The event also features a dramatic reenactment of "cliff-climbing for swallow nests," a centuries-old tradition performed by national rock-climbing champions scaling 50-meter limestone cliffs without ropes, showcasing the daring skills once vital for harvesting edible bird's nests.

For outdoor enthusiasts, a hiking trail on August 2 offers a journey through karst peaks and historical relics, while weekend campers can enjoy folk music around bonfires, DIY golden swallow kite-making, and barbecue gatherings under the stars.

Education meets adventure in the cave study tours to be held every Wednesday and Saturday, designed for students to learn about karst geology and local heritage. Families and foodies can savor local flavors at 20+ stalls at the main venue, which showcase Huaiji's agricultural specialties, from organic tea to bamboo shoots.
Transportation is hassle-free with seven temporary parking lots near Yanyan Scenic Area, offering over 700 parking spaces. Visitors are advised to navigate to the "Yanyan Archway Parking Lot" for easy access.
Combining ecological marvels, living traditions, and modern leisure, this carnival positions Huaiji as a dynamic cultural destination. Whether marveling at swarms of swallows, hiking ancient trails, or savoring local flavors, guests are invited to immerse themselves in the swallow promise, a celebration of nature, heritage, and community.
