Ink unites cultures: International students celebrate CNY at South China Agricultural University

To celebrate the Chinese New Year, South China Agricultural University hosted its 2026 Spring Festival event, featuring the writing and gifting of Spring Festival couplets, known as "chunlian," and the Chinese character "Fu." International students joined peers and locals in celebrating the tradition together.

Guided by renowned calligraphy masters, students from around the world picked up brushes to write couplets—red banners with ink calligraphy displayed on doors during the Chinese New Year to bring good fortune, happiness, and prosperity. Hands of different skin tones held the same brush, carefully tracing the character "Fu" on bright red paper. From tentative strokes to confident lines, the international students experienced the Chinese characters and Lingnan culture.
