The Times Higher Education (THE) released its latest World University Rankings on October 9. Four universities in Guangdong remain among the top 300 worldwide, once again showcasing the province's strong higher education performance.

According to the results, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) rose 23 places from 183rd to 160th worldwide, ranking 12th among universities in the Chinese mainland and leading the province for the sixth consecutive year. Sun Yat-sen University maintained its position in the 201-250 band and moved up from 17th to 16th among Chinese mainland universities. South China University of Technology and Southern Medical University were both ranked in the 251-300 range.
Among the 97 mainland universities that made it into the ranking, ten are from Guangdong.
The 2026 THE World University Rankings evaluated 2,191 universities across 115 countries and regions, using 18 performance indicators in areas such as teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry.
