Huizhou's Huidong County in Guangdong Province recently launched a distinctive "Village Basketball Association (Village BA)" tournament for the Spring Festival.
The tournament opened on February 4 with the Renping Peninsula "Village BA" and the Gangkou "Year of Horse Cup" civil-military friendly match be held in the coastal scenic area.
Eleven teams from seven local towns participated in the event, which will run until early March.
In recent years, rural sports activities, represented by village-level basketball tournaments, have gained widespread popularity across China. Organizing this tournament during the Spring Festival aims to promote a healthy lifestyle for the holiday, attracting both residents and tourists to participate together.
The event is held in the coastal area of the Renping Peninsula, allowing visitors to watch the basketball games, enjoy local intangible cultural heritage performances, and experience a seaside holiday. This "sports + tourism" model has become a distinctive Spring Festival activity in the region, showcasing a new face of rural celebrations in China.
