Gas volleyball tournament begins in Jiangmen competition zone of 15th National Games

The gas volleyball mass competition of the 15th National Games began at the Taishan Xinning Gymnasium in Jiangmen City, Guangdong, on August 21, marking the start of the 15th National Games' events in the Jiangmen competition zone.

The opening ceremony of the gas volleyball mass competition began at 8 a.m., with athletes and referees taking oaths to uphold sportsmanship and competition rules. Then the tournament officially opened and a large number of local spectators were present to cheer for athletes from across the country.

Scheduled from August 21 to 25, the gas volleyball mass competition will feature group matches from August 21–24, followed by ranking matches on the final day (August 25).

The event includes seven categories: men's youth, men's middle-aged, men's veterans, women's youth, women's middle-aged, women's veterans, and a mixed group. A total of 63 teams and 623 athletes from various provinces and cities will compete over five days, promising an exciting sports spectacle for all.

The 15th National Games, the largest and highest-level comprehensive sports event in China, will officially be held from November 9 to 21, 2025, across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao—marking the first time the Games are jointly hosted by the three regions.

The Jiangmen competition zone is set to host eight events during the 15th National Games, as well as the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympics Games, the highest number the city has ever held for a national comprehensive sports event.

This gas volleyball event marks the third time that the Taishan area in Jiangmen has hosted volleyball-related events for the National Games. As a key city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and a renowned hometown of overseas Chinese, Jiangmen, along with its Taishan area, has a deep-rooted volleyball culture.

The sport was introduced to Taishan by overseas Chinese a century ago, earning the area the title "Hometown of Volleyball" and establishing it as a designated training base of the Chinese Volleyball Association.

With the opportunity presented by the 15th National Games, Jiangmen aims to boost its sports economy, create new opportunities for sports-related tourism, further establishing itself as a new hub for the sports economy in the Greater Bay Area.
