On the evening of July 26, the 2025 "Tilapia Cup" — the 3rd Maonan District "Village BA" Men's Basketball Tournament — tipped off at two courts in Maoming, Guangdong. A beloved community event, the tournament drew large crowds from nearby towns and villages, with eager spectators filling the stands well before the start.
In the opening matches, Gaoshan Town defeated Shange Town with strong team coordination, while Gongguan Town edged out Jintang Town in a competitive showdown. Meanwhile, Zhengsheng and Xinpo Town battled in a close match, and host team Yangjiao Town beat Meihua Town, capitalizing on their home-court advantage.
Beyond basketball, the event featured tilapia tastings, local specialty teas, and a charity flea market, with proceeds supporting rural youth sports programs.
Now in its third year, the tournament aims to promote the local tilapia industry through grassroots sports and contribute to rural revitalization. The top two teams will advance to represent Maonan District in municipal-level competition.
