Zhuhai goes big on "Cycling Capital" with coastal mountain scenery

Guangdong's coastal city Zhuhai is seizing the momentum of hosting the first cross-boundary cycling event of China's 15th National Games on Nov 8 to establish itself as a "Cycling Capital" in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, according to a press conference held on Nov 18 in Guangdong's capital city, Guangzhou.

Huang Zhenqiu, Deputy Mayor of Zhuhai, announced plans to establish the city as a "Cycling Capital" in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area through diverse and participatory cycling events.

With mountains, coastal routes, and islands seamlessly connected by 1,290 km of greenways and 133 km of fitness trails, Zhuhai offers premier options for both leisurely rides and challenging climbs for cyclists, said Huang Zhenqiu.

Additionally, Zhuhai is adjacent to Macao. On Nov 8, the Men's Individual Road Cycling Race of China's 15th National Games was held in Zhuhai. Covering 231.8 kilometers and crossing the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge, the race is the first-ever event in National Games history to connect Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao in a single route.

With this experience in partnering with Macao and Hong Kong to co-host the first cross-boundary cycling event in China's National Games history, Zhuhai aims to explore barrier-free cycling experiences across the GBA for cycling enthusiasts.
