The 2025 Guangdong Yunkai Mountain Trail Running Race kicked off on October 26 in Qianpai Plum Valley, Xinyi City, Maoming, as 1,072 runners tackled the misty Yunkai Mountain range to the stirring anthem of the 15th National Games.

As the fourth major outdoor event this year in Xinyi's "Plum Village and Bamboo Sea" Tourism Resort, the race offered two routes: a 60km course with a 3,252m elevation gain across Silver Rock Sky Lake (银岩天池), Beisuo Persimmon Forest, and Datian Ding (大田顶)—the highest peak in western Guangdong—and a 30km course through Ma'an Bamboo Sea (马安竹海), waterfalls, and Shiren Ding Grassland (石人顶草原), with a rise of 1,755m. Both routes showcased Xinyi's diverse natural beauty.

"Xinyi is stunning—I'll definitely be back!" said Li Hainan from Shenzhen, winner of the men's 30km race. "The course was smooth and the scenery was full of surprises."

In recent years, Xinyi has strengthened its sports infrastructure, building over 3,000 venues with 2.79 square meters of space per capita. The city has also enhanced housing and river landscapes to better support major events.
Reaching the summit of Datian Ding, Western Guangdong's highest peak
Since early this year, Xinyi has attracted nearly 5,000 athletes nationwide through major sporting events. According to the city's Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism, and Sports Bureau, Xinyi will continue hosting flagship events like the National Mountain Bike Open and will stage handball and 3x3 basketball competitions during the 2026 Provincial Games.
