Zhongshan builds "10-minute fitness circles" for residents

August 8 marks China's 17th National Fitness Day, and Zhongshan is embracing it with a surge in public sports activities.

According to the Zhongshan Education and Sports Bureau, by the end of 2024, the city had 3,346 basketball courts, 480 football fields, 409 athletics tracks, and 1,152 badminton courts.

Over the past year, Zhongshan completed the renovation of Xingzhong Stadium (兴中体育场), expanded the baseball and softball center, and launched the Qijiang New Town Sports Park project (岐江新城体育公园). The city also added or upgraded 85 urban and rural sports facilities and renewed 510 sets of equipment.

These improvements have brought professional sports venues closer to residents, forming accessible "10-minute fitness circles" across the city and creating a solid foundation for the city's thriving fitness culture.

By the end of 2024, Zhongshan's total sports venue area reached 12.59 million square meters, or 2.84 square meters per person. Facilities like the upgraded Xingzhong Stadium and the expanded Zhongshan International Baseball and Softball Center, which hosted the 15th National Games baseball test event, are now open to the public, while construction of Qijiang New Town Sports Park continues.
