With the 15th National Games of China set to open on November 9 in Guangzhou, the city has launched a new public campaign aimed at bringing sports and fitness activities to communities across the country.
The "Luck-ing Together" initiative began on August 8, coinciding with China's National Fitness Day. Activities will include a "Lucky Caravan" traveling exhibition, the creation of small "pocket parks" for exercise, and online challenges. Organizers say the program will combine sporting events with public fitness, recycling drives, and cultural experiences, aiming to reach over a million participants.
"Lucky Caravan" nationwide tour
The "Lucky Caravan," a mobile sports and culture display, will start its journey from Guangzhou on August 15 and travel for about 15 weeks, visiting more than 15 cities, including Chengdu, Shanghai, and Lhasa.
The tour will feature sports demonstrations, interactive games, second-hand goods recycling, cultural markets, and free gift distribution. Each stop is planned as a small-scale outdoor festival to promote healthy and environmentally friendly lifestyles.
During the tour, an online platform will host events such as a "Run to Guangzhou" relay challenge, where participants can earn points for charity rewards through running check-ins and recycling.
Sports in public spaces
At the launch event, some activities took place inside a shopping mall, featuring sports-themed games, digital playgrounds, and live performances. Visitors tried boxing and long jump challenges, explored tech-based sports experiences like light-and-shadow ping pong, and enjoyed cultural performances including Tai Chi and breakdancing.
The setup was designed to make sports accessible to people of different ages and interests in a casual, social environment. Organizers say the campaign is part of a broader effort to connect the Games with everyday life in Guangzhou and beyond, and to encourage more people to engage in sports in ways that fit into their daily routines.
