Guangdong claims first gold in 15th NG taekwondo event held in Huizhou

The Taekwondo competition of the 15th National Games commenced on September 26 in Huizhou City, Guangdong Province. Athlete Huang Kefen from the Guangdong team secured the first gold medal awarded in the Taekwondo event of the 15th National Games by winning the men's -58kg category.

The Taekwondo competition will run through September 29 in Huizhou.

The men's -58kg category final is closely contested, with the eventual champion rallying from a deficit in the first round.

A total of 134 athletes from 33 delegations across the country are set to vie for top honors over the four-day tournament, which will award a total of eight gold medals.

According to the schedule, the opening day featured the men's -58kg and women's -49kg categories. The action continues on Sept. 27 with the men's -68kg and women's -57kg events, followed by the men's -80kg and women's -67kg divisions on Sept. 28. The competition concludes on Sept. 29 with the men's +80kg and women's +67kg finals.

Competitions run from 09:00 am to 10:20 pm.
