The sailing events of the 17th Guangdong Provincial Games began on April 10 at the Guangdong Maritime Sports Training Center in Honghai Bay, Shanwei.

About 270 athletes from ten teams across the province, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Shantou, and Shanwei, are competing in the multi-day regatta.
The training center, located on the Zhelang Peninsula in Honghai Bay, is known for its steady wind conditions and high-quality waters. It is regarded as one of China's premier maritime sports facilities.
Last year, the sailing and windsurfing competitions of the 15th National Games were also held here. Organizers said the center's standardized courses, well-developed support facilities and professional operations provide a strong platform for provincial-level competition.
The sailing events are part of the competitive sports program at the Guangdong Provincial Games, which features athletes from the province's cities. The regatta is expected to run for several days, though officials have not released a detailed schedule.

Honghai Bay has become a regular venue for major sailing events in southern China, attracting both domestic and international competitors in recent years. Local authorities have invested in the area's maritime infrastructure to position Shanwei as a hub for water sports tourism and training.
