Top provincial orienteering competition kicks off in Dongguan

On June 27, the 20th Guangdong Provincial Orienteering Championships and the 2026 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Dongguan) Orienteering Invitational Tournament opened in Binhaiwan Bay Area, Dongguan. Nearly 800 athletes from 87 teams across the Greater Bay Area took part in the event.

The tournament featured Junior, Youth, and Adult divisions, with four disciplines: Sprint Orienteering, Score Orienteering, Short Distance Orienteering, and Short Distance Knockout. Competitors navigated the courses using maps and compasses, locating checkpoints while testing their physical endurance and navigation skills.

The event has been held in Dongguan Binhaiwan Bay Area for three consecutive years since 2024. This year's routes connect local landmarks including the coastal greenway, Binhaiwan · Huahaili Flower Park, Binhaiwan Culture Sports Park, and the Binhaiwan International Open Innovation and Entrepreneurship Community. In recent years, Binhaiwan has attracted a growing number of regional and national sporting events as part of efforts to promote sports development and youth exchanges in the Greater Bay Area.
