On August 4, at the China National Athletic Championships in Quzhou, Wu Ruiting from Dongguan won the men's triple jump with a 17.68-meter leap, breaking the Asian record set in 2009 and claiming the championship title.
Wu showed strong form throughout, starting with 17.16 meters and improving to 17.41 meters. His fourth jump of 17.68 meters set a new Asian record by 9 centimeters and secured his spot at the World Championships in Tokyo.
Olympic silver medalist Zhu Yaming took second with a jump of 17.37 meters, while Ma Yinglong from Shandong earned bronze with 16.77 meters.
Born in 1995 in Dalang, Dongguan, Wu was discovered at the age of 12 by the Dongguan Sports School. Rising to the national team, he became a prominent figure in China's men's triple jump, winning gold at the 2021 National Games with a jump of 17.28 meters. Despite recent injuries, Wu remained determined, placing second at this year's National Championships and winning the National Athletics Grand Prix.
Wu aims for gold at the 15th National Games, set for November–December 2025 in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. Dongguan will host five events, including two National Games competitions and three Special Olympics.
