Roaring through Jiangmen: motorcycle parade showcases industry strength

On April 6, more than 100 motorcycles thundered through the streets of Jiangmen in a grand parade, turning the city into a stage displaying its thriving motorcycle industry.

Participating riders hailing from across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area set off from the Zhufeng Motorcycle test track (珠峰摩托试车场), riding past city landmarks along scenic riverside arcade streets.

According to Zhang Hongming, Planning Department Director at Jiangmen Zhufeng Motorcycle, every component of a motorcycle— from the smallest screw to the engine—can be sourced locally. This high level of vertical integration helps reduce both production time and costs.

The industry has received recent international recognition. At the World Superbike Championship in Portugal, the ZXMOTO 820RR-RS claimed first place. Several key components of the winning bike, including the exhaust pipe and engine cylinder, were made in Jiangmen, while the rider's helmet was produced by the local company Pengcheng Helmet (鹏程头盔).

Jiangmen, known as China's first "National Motorcycle Industry Demonstration Base," is home to more than 110 motorcycle manufacturers above a certain scale, forming a complete industrial chain from design to after-sales service.

The parade route stretched from the test track along Yingbin West Road and Jiangmen Avenue, passing through the Wanda Plaza commercial district. It was designed to showcase both the city's modern industrial landscape and its historical quarters.

Kuang Shumei, a rider from Foshan, travelled 70 kilometres to join the parade. She said she was impressed by the city's wide, smooth roads and its vibrant spring scenery.

At the parade's endpoint, a riverside market hosted live music, including Cantonese songs performed by a local band. More than 50 vendors set up stalls offering local specialities, food and handicrafts. About 40 shops in the nearby Qimingli area offered special discounts during the event.
