World diving champion Quan Hongchan's hometown to build comprehensive water sports network

Zhanjiang, China's diving hometown that nurtured world diving champion Quan Hongchan, is detailing efforts to build a holistic water sports ecosystem and a mature athlete talent pipeline for the world, as announced at a press conference held on November 18 in Guangdong's capital city, Guangzhou.

Deputy Mayor of Zhanjiang, Wu Guoxiong, outlined efforts that include annual water sports festivals and full-chain industry development, from training and equipment development to events and commerce.

Meanwhile, the city will construct a diving training system covering urban and rural areas and spanning all school ages, continuously nurturing talent for water sports.

Zhanjiang is the southernmost coastal city in Guangdong. It is born of the sea and thrives on it. Known nationwide as the "Hometown of Diving," it is one of China's earliest cities to develop diving, with its diving history dating back to the 1930s.

Since then, Zhanjiang has established a complete talent pipeline encompassing selection, training, and competition, nurturing Olympic diving champions such as Lao Lishi, He Chong, and Quan Hongchan for the world.
