Yue BA and Yue Super match tickets unlock discounts across Guangdong

South China's Guangdong Province is rolling out an innovative "sports + tourism" strategy, turning event tickets into discount passes as it launches two major grassroots leagues: the Guangdong City Basketball League ("Yue BA") and the Guangdong City Football Super League ("Yue Super").

The 2026 Yue BA is scheduled to tip off on March 21 and will run through August. The tournament will bring together 21 representative teams from cities across the province, featuring 125 matchups and aiming to establish a new flagship event for Guangdong's mass sports culture. Meanwhile, the Yue Super will run from April to November.

Rather than focusing solely on competition results, organizers are emphasizing cross-sector integration—leveraging the popularity of local leagues to drive travel, cultural engagement, and consumption. Central to this approach is the concept of the "ticket economy," where a single match ticket becomes a gateway to a range of discounts and experiences across the province.

Visitors holding match tickets will be eligible for exclusive deals at tourist attractions, hotels, and cultural venues. The policy is backed by joint support from provincial cultural and financial authorities, encouraging businesses to participate through subsidies and coordinated promotions. In effect, a ticket stub is no longer just proof of entry to a game, but a "key" to unlocking savings across Guangdong.

To further integrate sports with tourism, Guangdong will introduce curated travel routes under the theme "Travel Guangdong with the Games." These routes will connect competition venues with the province's extensive tourism network, including 16 national 5A-level scenic areas and more than 220 4A-level attractions, alongside theme parks, coastal landscapes, and historical sites. Visitors will be encouraged to combine match attendance with sightseeing and cultural exploration, transforming a single game into a multi-day travel experience.

Cultural immersion is also a major component. During the leagues, stadiums and surrounding areas will host intangible cultural heritage performances, creative markets, and regional showcases representing Cantonese, Chaoshan, and Hakka traditions. Organizers aim to turn each venue into a "living window" of Lingnan culture, offering both domestic and international visitors a deeper connection to the region.

Through these efforts, Guangdong hopes to inspire a new travel trend: "Go for a game, fall in love with a city."
