Guangdong launches initiative to attract one million young talents in 2026

Guangdong Province on March 15 launched the 2026 "Millions of Talents Gather in Guangdong" Initiative in Guangzhou, a program aimed at attracting over one million college graduates to work or start businesses in the province this year.

As part of the year-long initiative, a large spring job fair opened the same day at Area D of the Canton Fair Complex and will last until March 16. Another major job fair will be held in Shenzhen in the autumn.

The spring fair brought together nearly 2,000 employers offering more than 85,000 positions. Participants included Fortune Global 500 companies, leading Chinese enterprises, top universities, leading hospitals, and research institutes.

Chen Xiaoxin, a graduating student from a Guangzhou university, attended the fair looking for opportunities in the IT sector. The scale of the event and the number of companies attracted her. "It features more major companies than the job fairs held on campus," she said.

As China's largest provincial economy by GDP, Guangdong has a strong industrial base and a high demand for skilled workers. The province covers all 31 categories in China's manufacturing classification system and has developed ten industrial clusters, each valued at over one trillion yuan.

Huang Guanhua, a PhD graduate from the Chinese Academy of Sciences who came to Guangdong last year, attended the launch ceremony. He noted that the province's strong industrial ecosystem offers many career paths and opportunities for talent.

The venue also included exhibition areas outlining development plans for Guangdong and its 21 cities for the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan period, where South presented a selection of Guangdong's technology products, cultural and creative items, and agricultural products to highlight the province's diverse industrial strengths.

Among the exhibits is Huajuhong, a traditional throat-soothing product made from the peel of a special pomelo grown in Guangdong. The product recently drew widespread attention on social media after being praised by China's Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Hua Chunying during the country's "two sessions" earlier this month.
